Needs Analysis and Application Prioritization

Needs Analysis and Application Prioritization is the second step in the Solutions Solves™ Practice Management Methodology. During the development of the organization’s Information System Vision and Strategy (Step 1), consideration was given to the importance of certain applications (lab, x-ray, transcription, practice management software, etc.). The objective of this second step is to identify, prioritize and document the practice management software capabilities, within application, that are required/desired by the organization during the next three to five years.

In addition to the high level prioritization of the various applications and their respective capabilities, the group practice needs to create a detailed time-table for the implementation of the practice management software. Solutions Solves™ Practice Management Methodology provides several sample templates that guide the organization through this process:

  • developing a prioritized timeline of the various applications within the practice management software
  • defining important considerations
  • determining the applications that need to be interfaced or integrated

This same needs analysis process should be followed with other information systems, such as lab, x-ray, transcription, etc. Completing the above three referenced templates requires a thoughtful and time consuming work effort that serves as the foundation for steps 3, 4 and 5 of the Solutions Solves™ Practice Management Methodology.
