Information System Vision and Strategy

The first step in the Solutions Solves™ Practice Management Methodology for evaluating and selecting practice management software is to create/update the organization’s information system vision and strategy. It is important that the Vision and Strategy be stated clearly, be well understood and effectively communicated. The Vision and Strategy should include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • A 3-5 year time period with an annual review and update
  • Information System Application(s) that impact patient care
  • Identification of required interfaces
  • Prioritization of the various Information Systems and Applications
  • Data aggregation – the transfer of data from disparate applications into a central data repository

Practice management software is only one, albeit important and integral, aspect of the organization’s overall information system vision and strategy. For this reason, we suggest that the strategy adopted for the practice management software be a sub-set of the organization’s more complete and comprehensive Information System Vision and Strategy.
